Hi Megan and Andy,

I came across your blog. I love the trimester calendar on the side showing the baby's progression. Things I couldn't live without: patience, a changing table/dresser piece, headbands(eliminates having to tell people all the time she's a girl), burp clothes and bibs (for my reflux baby Maleah), Swaddle Me sleep sack, onesies, baby carrier (bjorn thing), bouncy seat...those are some of my favorites, but I have needed different things for Maleah than I did with Kalaina.

One more thing, that cream Lasinoh is the name I think. It's in a purple tube.

You definately need everything that emily mentioned.
And just a few more thoughts:
A good stroller is a must, one that can snap the car seat right into it are great. The snap and go is a great one for the car and errand type use. It's real light weight and compact.

I couldn't live with out a swing, my kids slept in them for the first 6-9months or so.

One of those nursing covers.

A mirror to put on the back of the seat so you can see them while you are in the car. THey have some cool ones now with lights and music too.

That's a good start! I'm sure I'll think of more later! Happy shopping!

You got to have the headband thing. Otherwise there is NO WAY people would know your baby is a girl. You could dress it up in pink frilly dresses and strangers would still ask you how old your son is. A bow superglued to her head works as well.

You'll also want to get things to hang over the crib that you can wind up and it will play a song. Or even better, one with batteries that has flashing lights and plays annoying songs over and over and over and over again. Beleive me, Megan will love that!

You might also want to get some diapers. And wipes.

I am getting you the perfect thing for nursing so I hope you didn't get anything yet, but all these people now have the hooter hiders which I never had and I hated nursing with a blanket so I hope you didn't get that. I also loved my Boppy pillow to lay the baby on when nursing, this helped a lot when I was trying to get the hang of things. My girls love music to go to sleep too. We have the rainforest Mobile for Abbie which plays mellow classical songs that she loves. The car seat that I really like a lot these days is the Chicco one it is the most compact and light weight I really think they are nice. That is all I can think of right now.

definately the Lansinoh cream if you plan on nursing, a nursing camisole (they sell at target...i LIVED in those for the first month), a good nursing gown for nighttime with support, gripe water for fussy times (it's all natural...found at walgreens, and swaddleme blankets were lifesavers too in the beginning! i'll let you now if i think of anything else! getting so close!!!!

Diaper cloths for burping and spit ups.
Breastfeeding cover.
Large teddy bear shaped sponge for putting baby on in the bathtub (sink is easier) and baby washcloths.
Baby nail clippers.
Directional sleeper for the crib. SO you can lay them slightly on their sides without fear of them rolling on their bellies.
Larger receiving blankets to swaddle them...and a binkie if they'll take one.
A fan or white noise music in the bedroom to help them sleep and drown out other noises. We use the sounds of a rainstorm.
Keep the nails on your pointer and pinky fingers short so you can use them as emergency binkies.
They sleep a lot when you first bring them home, so take advantage of it- don't clean your house! Sleep when they sleep!!!!!!

i cant believe i forgot the most important advice...put them on a schedule!!! the book Babywise is wonderful and got Jacob sleeping through the night at 4 1/2 weeks! I have NEVER heard a negative outcome to every single person i know that has done it. basically it is pro-schedule vs. demand feeding and keeping them awake after day feedings. it works!!

I agree with everyone so far, although we just roll up a blanket and position Jenna on her side and then put the blanket behind her so she stays asleep on her side.

We love our portable Fisher Price Aquarium swing. We take it upstairs and downstairs all day since she loves to take naps in it.

A nice bouncy seat that vibrates is great too.

And just save yourself the trouble and buy some cloth diapers to use as burp cloths. They absorb the spitup way better than all the cutesie pink decorated burp cloths that I bought!!

That Lansinoh cream everyone is talking about is for your nipples so they don't crack or bleed while getting used to nursing. Just put a tiny dot on every time and you shouldn't have a problem.

I LOVE my Snap and Go and didn't think I'd use it again after Trent but I use it all the time with Jenna. It's so light, I just whip it out of the car and snap her in it and let Trent walk beside me on quick errands.

Also, I am in love with the head support pillow I just got for Jenna the other day at Babies R Us. It's 9.99, cream colored, and has a tiny teddy bear at the top (just so you know what to look for). I had so many problems with her head flopping around in the car and this one really helps keep her head in place and I really believe she sleeps longer in her carseat because of it. It's called The Cradler.

Last thing (I love talking about baby stuff since I learned that you really don't need every little gadget out there), the Swaddleme is great but if you don't have one, you can just use those light and stretchy "Gerber" waffle blankets for swaddling too.

Good Luck!

I love the sleeping gowns with the open bottom. They are asleep most of the time for the first few months, and those are very comfortable & make changing diapers simple. Just pull it up to buckle in the car seat, and lay a thin blanket on her lap.

I think everyone has pretty much covered the "can't live without" things. But, I wanted to give you one piece of advice that helped me - as baby grows, don't listen to what all the other parents say as far as how quickly their children reach milestones, etc. Every baby is unique and different. You can drive yourself crazy if you listen to that stuff. Love you guys! Cindy

Hey Megan!

It was so cool to see your comment on our blog! How fun!

Now that we have 5 kids...seriously, my "can't live without it" list is pretty small. Onesies, diapers, carseat, swaddling blanket, decent stroller, and a sling. We're paring down since the other kids toys have taken over. ;)

I do like the Bumbo I got for Ella though. We just got a swing (I know, on the 5th, weird us) and I am kinda meh on it. I also liked The Happiest Baby on the Block.

But you've got the best thing ever. You have Andy there to entertain the baby. How lucky are you? ;)
